Overview

The Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) houses the division of Labor Market Information Services (LMIS). This division is responsible for collecting, analyzing, reporting and publishing data on economic activities for the state of Kansas. During the collection process, employers may be asked to provide information through several different surveys including the Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics Report, Multiple Worksite Report, Annual Refiling Survey, and the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). According to Federal law, the information provided by businesses is used for statistical purposes only. Any company or individual identifying information for non-government establishments is held in strict confidence.

Occupational Employment and Wage Report

The Kansas Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) Report is a collection of occupational job titles and hourly/annual wage data from employers. The OEWS report helps the KDOL produce the Kansas Wage Survey, the High Demand jobs list and the Kansas employment outlook. Kansas businesses, sampled every three years at most, are the only source of occupational wage data and are selected to represent other businesses of similar size in the same area and industry, which means responses are critical to the quality and accuracy of the statistics. Aggregated estimates are released annually down to the county level.

Multiple Worksite Report

Annual Refiling Survey

The main purpose of the Annual Refiling Survey (ARS) is to verify or correct the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes assigned to establishments. Another important purpose of the ARS is to verify or update establishments' mailing and physical location addresses. The ARS also asks employers to identify new locations in the state. If multiple establishment employers meet Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program reporting criteria, a MWR request is made asking for employment and wages for each worksite quarterly.

Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses

The annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) provides statistics on work-related injuries and illnesses in Kansas. These statistics include the number and frequency of injuries and illnesses by industry. Each year Kansas businesses are randomly selected. Individuals that are self-employed, farms with fewer than 11 employees, private households and government agencies are not included in the survey. Respondents are now able to provide their OSHA identification number and import data they have already submitted to the OSHA ITA directly to BLS.
